Jormungandr, the Midgard Serpent

Jörmungandr (“giant monster”) is one of three children born through the union of Loki and the giantess, Angrboða. The Aesir gods feared Jörmungandr, so Oðin ordered him thrown into the ocean where he grew so large that he encircled the entire world. For this reason, he is also called Miðgarðsormr (”Midgard Serpent”). Thor and Jörmungandr are sworn enemies and the two are destined to meet at the battle of Ragnarok where upon both will die.
