The first piece in the Viking Artifact Series, this relief of a Viking-Age sword is sculpted to look like an artifact recently unearthed by an archeologist, battleworn, time-scarred, and heavily weathered. 
 
While heavily researched, this piece is not intended to be a replica of any particular artifact. Rather, it is an artistic interpretation that is a melding of archeological finds, historical research, and descriptions found in the Old Norse Eddas and Sagas.
 
To capture the look of inlaid silver, Herbliðr (meaning "battle glad" in Old Norse) is offered with the option to have the hilt embellished with hand gilded pure silver leafing and twisted sterling silver wire. The silver leaf is also weathered to give it a tarnished/aged appearance true to an artifact.
 
Herbliðr is available unmounted or mounted on a hand-stained, solid red oak board. The optional augmentation in the corners is meant to evoke the hammered rivets seen on the hulls of Viking longships or on Viking-Age shields.
 
The unmounted sword will is 37.5" in length from pommel to sword tip. When mounted, the piece is 39.5" long by 7.5" wide. 
 
Each piece comes with hardware for hanging as well as a booklet that shares information about the sword, its making, and the Viking Artifact Series. Mounted swords also feature a brass plate on the back indicating the edition number.
 
EDITION SIZE: Limited to 100 numbered pieces.
 
Those who purchase both the sword and the spearhead may request matching edition numbers and every effort will be made to meet this request.
