Aptrganga (again walker)
 
As told in the Eyrbyggja Saga, Thorolf lame-leg was a nasty man who, upon his death, rose again as an aptrganga (“after walker”). A malevolent spirit similar to a zombie, an aptrganga retains some of its intelligence and skills while also possessing great strength and magical powers. Nearly impossible to kill, it guards its burial mound and attacks anyone who comes too close. They are also known to roam the countryside seeking vengeance against those whom they feel had wronged them in life.
