The shining one
 
Skírnir (meaning “the shining one”) is servant and messenger to Freyr. He plays important roles in two myths. In one tale he is sent to woo the giantess Gerðr on Freyr’s behalf and, in payment for undertaking the perilous journey to Jotunheim, is given Freyr’s magical sword that fights by itself. In the other tale, he is tasked with securing the aid of the dwarves to create the magical rope, Gleipnir, the only thing that can bind the great wolf, Fenrir.
