Mini Myth Collection® - Bragi
Best of poets, Bragi is husband to Idun and skald to the Aesir gods in Valhöll. Listed as the god of poetry in the Poetic Edda, it is widely suspected by scholars that he is a later deification of the first known skald, Bragi Boddason, who composed poetry in the ninth century for the legendary Swedish king, Beli. If this is the case, Bragi was mythologized within a century of his death.
I have depicted Bragi playing a Viking lyre (small harp) that would have been a fairly common instrument for the skalds of the day. He also wears a fur-lined hat worn widely throughout Scandinavia.
