Our Approach Our Beliefs Quick Facts
"Why are you called Stone Soup Communications?" we are often asked. The answer is simple, though perhaps not obvious. Stone Soup is an ancient folk tale that has been told and re-told by a variety of cultures over the past several centuries. The story recounts the main character's successful creation of soup from a stone, and the other characters' desire, primarily out of their own curiosity and hunger, to witness the creation of such a phenomenon. While the characters and circumstances used to tell this story vary widely from place to place and age to age, the way the main character creates soup from a stone is always the same: by getting the other characters in the tale to contribute (without realizing it) the delectable ingredients they have tucked away for safe keeping. Because the main character can be seen as a trickster or charlatan, on the surface the moral of the tale may not seem too positive; but upon deeper consideration, it is actually profound and uplifting. The true moral of the story is that when people work together, they can make amazing things (from seemingly nothing) that benefit all. We at Stone Soup feel a deep connection to the concepts and meanings behind words and phrases, and it is our nature to dig for their deeper meanings. When we were naming our company, we remembered this folk tale and quickly realized that the morals and messages it shares truly reflect our goals and philosophy, and so the name was adopted. |
